Achievement tracking in Gearscore? WORLD GO BOOM MUAHAHAHHA
I've got a proposal for you, and you'll either love it or realize it has the power to destroy the world and remake it in your own image (As long as you look like me).
Track achievement points in gearscore. I don't mean to factor in someones achievements into their gearscore. I mean to track it as a separate value. You mouse over Bakazulu, "4500 gearscore, 2550 achievement points". Make it totally optional to track, something you have to specifically turn on. But imagine... just imagine... "LF4M Ony25, must have 4k GS, 2k achievement points." Instantly, the world is divided into "OFMG that's lame achievements mean nothing!" and "That's easy to get if you spend any time on your character outside of a dungeon." Why would I want this? So I can find players who have put some investment into their character. I don't care if they got their achieves from PVP, world event, exploring, even profession grinding. As long as there is more to their character than a set of gear. Looking at my own 80s, you can easily tell by the gearscore which ones I have spent the most time on. What does the following tell you about my characters.... Warlock: 4.5k GS, 3k achievement points Shaman: 4.8k GS, 3k achievement points Tankadin: 5k GS, 2.5k achievement points Rogue: 4.3k GS, 1.8k achievement points Hunter: 4k GS, 1.4k achievement poitns Warrior: 4k GS, 1.3k achievement points Yes, my warlock and shaman were my 'mains' during burning crusade, the rest were made after WOTLK. Is this a consistent mechanic to measure somebody with? Well... that's debatable. It's more information, and what someone does with that information, good or evil, is up to them. I can just imagine the shift. If achievements started factoring into getting into raids, people would start going for them more often. And there's only so many dungeon achievements you can grind before you're forced to get your ass out into the great wild reaches of Azeroth. Imagine... * Player does a little arena fighting for the achievements, gets better at the TOC faction champions fight. * Player starts doing some exploring, do the wrathgate chain, finally understands who Bolvar and Saurfang are. * Yog'saron stops sitting cozy in his lair because of people going for vaious achievements on him. * Player does the whole Thorim quest chain in Storm Peaks, finally appreciates that part in Ulduar (Happened to me. Had no idea what razorscale was before that). Let's give the population of this game a good swift kick in the paradigm and show that there's more to do beside PUG, Raid, and gripe about PUGing and Raiding. |

Yeah, this is a bad idea. but i still kind of like it lol. Bad because people will absolutely hate it. The problem is that achivement info isn't ready on mouseover, and requesting it from the server on mouseover cuases a player to drop severly in FPS and connection. However, I can add it to the GearScore Display window. But Can I just keep it a secret option?

Meanwhile, I'll start a thread requesting a UI command to return just someones achievement points rather thant he full history. Once that is in place, it'll be a lot easier to query someone's achievement points total. You are totaly right about the framerate drop, it had slipped my mind how much data it's pulling up. Gotta think BIG. Oh, and here's something for ya. You know how recount can give you a graph comparing someone's DPS to their gearscore, giving you an 'effectiveness ratio'? Imagine cross-referencing that even further, comparing their achievement point total to their effectivenss ratio. It would be interesting to see the results. |

I currently cant fit anymore information into a GaerScore transmission. Fitting Name, Race, Class, GearScore, average ilevel, zone, scannedby, and 18 peices of armor and their potential enchantments fits the maximum size of a data transmission. Using multiple transmissions causes everyone to shit their pants and QQ about imaginary lag that they themselves make up.
I might be able to write you a small addon that does this. Maybe make it work on target? |

Could work. The issue is how to collect the info without doing the full framerate-dropping achievement window pull-up.
Out of curriosity, why are you transmitting average ilvl? Wouldn't the person on the other end be able to figure that out in a nanosecond when needed, rather than store it as a separate line? |

not really, They would have to decode the message, and compile the actual item links from this information. Then they would have to look at each item, scan its item level, and finnaly average them all out. SO usually this would be quick, but the problem is that you cannot control exactly when you receive a message it would be poor to force this potentially FPS dropping routine on them at random times. Its more of a standard programming thing.

RE: Achievement tracking in Gearscore? WORLD GO BOOM MUAHAHAHHA
Is there a way to dump an entire server worth of armory data into a database and load it into a plugin with updates through curse, so your score gets updated once a week? It would just be a giant list of names and achievement point totals....
Holy crap that might actually work. Someone just needs to run the data miner on armory once a week and upload the file to.... um... well... okay forget the 'holy' part, just crap. Average 6 characters per account, times 11 million accounts... 66,000,000 sets of name, server and number... I'm guess that would be a BIG file wouldn't it? Only way I can see to reduce file size would be to make it server-specific... Pardon the stream of consiousness (Beats the stream of something else normally on the forums). So player loads up plugin, and selects on Curse the extra addon that stores the data for that particular server which updates once a week. So if you played on "Feathermoon" and "Kul Tiras" you'd select those two servers of "Achievescoretracker-servername" and it would update those files, and you've got your data. PS: What's your excuse for posting past midnight? I'm in the army and I'm on staff duty so all I've got to do all night is blood elf the forums. |

Run this macro and tell me how it affects your performance. Just target somebody and spam it.
Code: /run ClearAchievementComparisonUnit(); SetAchievementComparisonUnit("target");It might not be as laggy as it would when GearScore has to actually look at specific ones to determine boss kills and such. |

RE: Achievement tracking in Gearscore? WORLD GO BOOM MUAHAHAHHA
Roger, i'll do that in... 9 hours when I get home and... okay I'm going to COMA when I get home so in 19 hours I'll try it out.
The more I think about it, the more I'd like to be able to easily identify people with high achievement scores. Most achievements outside of ulduar don't give any particular loot reward, so the only 'reward' from them is the challenge. People like that are more likely to stay with a raid through an 'oops', or be willing to try something crazy, like taking down Occulus PRE-NERF with five ruby drakes (Yes, it worked, nobody died) |

Or better yet try this macro, should do exactly what you want and will allow us to test lag.
Code: /run ClearAchievementComparisonUnit(); SetAchievementComparisonUnit("target"); local f = CreateFrame("Frame"); f:SetScript("OnEvent", function() print(GetComparisonAchievementPoints()); end) f:RegisterEvent("INSPECT_ACHIEVEMENT_READY") |
