My account was hacked hours after getting the new version of Gearscore addon.

I suspect it comes with a keylogger and someone is trying to take people's accounts.

Be careful of where you download addons. The downloads on this site are a zip-file that contain only text files, which none of them are executable. Nor should you ever attempt to exectue an addon you download. Always move the files into the Addons folder and let them run within WoW. While running in wow no addon can do anything to compromise your system.

Where did you download this at?

not sure where you got yours from but the one on this site and the curseforge are clean you can see how clean it is by going here:

I downloaded the addon from Curse-gaming.com

I thought the website was pretty legit but then that happened.

The addon is completely clean, from both sites. You most likely got keylogged another way, or you gave your password to someone. By giving your password to someone, I mean you answered one of the scam emails that asks for a lot of information, and usually saying you were suspected of selling/trading your WoW account.

you got the virus from somewhere else not from here. when was the last time you updated your anti virus program and virus definitions? if your anti virus is expired then it is just a paper weight. if you want an excellent free version get Avast

i have used GS since it came out and i have yet to get "hacked". btw your account wasn't "hacked" it was cracked

Often a hacking like this is only coincidental. We had a lot of people in our guild hacked after the battle.net conversion, and some of them blamed battle.net for the problem.
What it actually turned out to be was an issue with insecure e-mail addresses used for their battle.net accounts. And some of these people work in the IT industry and are some of the most careful folks you can imagine.

The lesson to be learned? As good as you think you are, there is some motivated hacker out there who might be smarter than you.
So buy an authenticator. If you can afford the $15 a month for World of Warcraft, there's no reason not to spend $7 once to secure it for a lifetime.
