GearScore New Scale
For Cataclysm I have 2 options.

Option 1
Leave GearScore how it is and simply adjust the color scheme so that 6000 appears as green 7000 as blue, 8000 as pruple, 9000 as orange, and 10000 as red.

I personally do not like this. I don't like the eventuallity of people having like 12.4k GS and such, its just silly. Not to mention that as soon as anyone hits 9001gs they will spend hours and hours spamming OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /sigh

Option 2.

This is the one I will most likely go with unless feedback is really against it.

GearScores will be readjusted to a new scale. This means if you have 6000gs now your GS in cataclysm will be about 2000. This will create a similar scale for Cata as is current for WotLK. For example, farming ilvl 200 heroics will get you about 3000 gs, and running Naxx will get you up to 4000. And running the first raids in Cata will let you reach 4000 as well. I have to wait and see to find out what the final scale will be, but I plan to set it like this.

I will take the highest itemlevel of blue equipment available and calculate the gearscore if a player had that level of gear in every slot. And set that GS to 3000, witch is the same blue color as the item it represents. Then have it scale to 4000 as you equip epics.

Please let me know what you think.

Why set it to 3000? Set it to the itemlevel instead and it is way more representative.

Because GearScore doesn't represent item level or average item level.

And what the hell it represents?. The chances of winning the lottery * 100?, the probability of being struck by lighting * 100?, the meaning of life?.

RE: GearScore New Scale
It represents the stat budget of the item.

Well...what does the itemlevel represent?

http://www.wowwiki.com/Item_level Wrote:As Hyzenthlei (Tauren Shaman 60 on Zul'Jin) first found out, and was later confirmed by a presentation at Blizzcon, Blizzard uses a formula to calculate item level from the item's stats.

So basically, whats the point of using GearScore?

RE: GearScore New Scale
Your incorrect, Blizzard sets the item level of an item, then using the item level determines how much stats an item will have, But they also include the slot location, the items rarity, and more.

Basically its like barrels of apples, GearScore measures the # of apples, while itemlevel measures the number of barrels. The two are correlated but, what if you have some barrels which are larger then others?

RE: GearScore New Scale
I say the second one sounds better than having over the top numbers plus it would be funny to see people going "omg my gearscore is getting lower"

RE: GearScore New Scale
I like option 1 more.
Does it really matter if you have to say "GS over 10K" instead of "GS over 5K"?
For you saying "over 12.4K" seems silly, but saying eg "over 1100 GS" would be silly too if you began with having a 0-500 gs range. It's just what you're use to. In that respect you could also say something like "in cata it's gonna be 100=green and 500=red".
Also, people still like to compare their new GS to a number they already knew.

They had the same discussion over in de DPS forums with peeps complaining about the redicilous DPS numbers in cata. You can make the analogy there if you read GC's post.

And even Blizzard admits they spent the stat budget on some items poorly and on some others very well. So you could have a slightly less budgeted item being better cause the smaller budget is spent way better then the bigger budget. But of cause the not as well spent bigger budget has the better GS.

Hmmm maybe with my tanking set of gear I need to farm a GS set as well. It can't hurt Smile.
