My guild is starting to use the EQDKP-Plus portal, and the be.imba gs doesn't work at all! it just selects the primary build of each char (which is not actually the main build of many of em), is usually VERY outdated, and well indeed the number is completely different from the in-game number we see as we all use GearScore addon.
If not, well NP, I just thought it would be an amazing option to have

Idea to simplify GearScore enormously

Edit: please note that "simplify" in the title means easier and more straight forward to use for the player, unfortunately not for the developer.

Hello

What GearScore does now is give a player some kind of score, but it's up to the other players what to do with that score. You see a lot in trade for example that people want "5k gs" for doing Naxxramas (and I don't mean an achievement run, but I mean doing a weekly quest).

Generally said, players are very bad at judging what kind of GearScore fits which content (another example -- people who claim you need "5k gs" to start doing ICC10).

My idea is the following: together with the number (or maybe even leave the number out at all), give a recommendation of what content the player would be good enough for to do.

I'll give you a very extensive example. Right now there are separate progression paths for 10man and 25man raids. Basically for 10man dungeons, the itemlevels go as follows: 200 (Naxxramas), 219 (Ulduar), 232 (Totc) and finally 251 (ICC).

What this means, is that normally players venturing to ICC10 would have done Totc10 and gathered gear with itemlevels of around 232 (and some 245 from the emblems, but also some lower if they were unable to find any good upgrades, like how I myself had to start ICC10 with 213 Emblem of Valor tanking cloak).

Anyway, from all this information you can judge very well how well someone is geared for certain content. To take the 10man example, you could say that someone with a "232 or higher itemlevel" in each slot would be "more than capable" of doing ICC10, but someone with only itemlevel 200 items (mixed blue and epic) would "certainly perform not good enough". There could be a distiction like so (again with the 10man example):

Green, "should be a breeze", itemlevel 251 and higher, some 232, etc.
Yellow, "more than capable", itemlevel 232 and higher, maybe some lower (ie 213 cloak).
Orange, "is capable, but only if very skilled", itemlevel 219 and up, some higher (232) but maybe one or two lower as well (say a 200 trinket).
Red, "not good enough", itemlevel 200, maybe some higher but not enough.

In that case I would look for someone to do ICC10 and see he has an Orange score. Now I know the rest of the raid all have Green scores so I don't really care the last one has Orange, because we'll do fine anyway. I also know it's a good player, so he'll probably perform better than most people with his gear level.

--
My point is, if you do it like this, you (as an addon creator) are the judge for whether people can do some content or not (if it's too much of a burden to do so, more people could join the team to specifically create filters, etc for certain classes to make the score show up right). Because right now people really abuse the addon and have rediculous requirements for certain content, that it really defeats the purpose of the addon.

Basically what everyone currently wants is to do ICC10 with only Kingslayers who have a 264 item in each slot (but why would you do that if you already have all that), and people with 232/245 items don't get a chance (yes, I know this sentance is QQ, but just think of the goodwill it would create in the community).

Anyway, that's my idea and I hope you can at least think about it.

PS.
I also have another suggestion, but I imagine you hear that a lot, and that's not checking for just gear or items, etc, but also have a very strong look at the combination of spec, items, gems, etc. If a warrior tank gems for parry you already know something fishy is going on (could label them as "bad tank, don't take!" ) or when a hunter wears a spellpower cloth item (to boost their itemlevel, for example; although I guess this wouldn't be much of a problem come Cataclysm).

I think that GearScore should simply only be a fraction of what it currently is. For example if you continue on with the current scale GearScore would would probably exceed 15k at one point.

This addon - as you first imagined it - was designed with simplicity in mind.
One number, that's all.
If that number gets to be too large people might start abbreviating their GearScore. Like 11.2k Which doesn't tell the specific difference between person A and B in end game content.

(.55) of the current GearScore model would probably do the trick.

This being most appropriate because of how it would turn back the clock to how GearScore was at the beginning of the expansion.

The current ICC 25 Heroic GearScore average is about 6200.
The Naxx 25 GearScore average was about 3500.

6200 (.55) = 3410

In Cataclysm Stats are much steeper, I have the beta and I can say that the incline is much more than WOTLK. This is also where the fractional value would help. It would act as a compressor for larger gaps. Thus, the result being that GearScore would probably end up at about the same GearScore at the end of the expansion. Maybe a little less.

If you need any more ideas or thoughts; I'm a bright mind, I love math, know enough Lua, and have the Beta. (Promedeus of Illidan - US) or (Prometheus of Gilneas - US [Beta])

Also an alternative could be exponential numbers: [CurrentGS^(.935)]

It works very smoothly with steep incline as well, but maybe a mix of the two is needed.

---

BTW - Remember when I suggested you make a legit SkillScore? (Probably don't) Well, I decided to.
SkillScore on Curse
(How do you get the tooltip hook to work so well? Like, to not add it multiple times. I have my own fix, but it results in sometimes SkillScore not showing.)

We know that it doesn't represent how good the gear is for a specific class or spec, although this is probably what most people would expect.
Threads like http://gearscoreaddon.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=573 and http://gearscoreaddon.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=574 confirm this. The benefit would be obvious, if gearscore represented this.

We know that it doesn't represent the itemlevel (http://gearscoreaddon.com/forums/showthr...#pid2669), although it's mainly calculated from it (modified by some other values like slot-weight and rarity). The benefit of this would be, that one can tell from where the gear comes from. But one would also know, that you can't tell from the score (number) alone, if the gear is a good choice for the specific class.

So, what does the score then really represent?
What is the benefit of this score?
And are the users aware of that?

what about outsourcing or specializing?
is there a chance, tht gearscore gets access 2 yagra data, so it can import the data? so, yagra can b a gathering tool 4 short term info + gearscore can b a storing tool 2 look + search 4 info ...
both addons r gd in their field ... but if they would b able 2 work hand in hand, tht would b really great! or is there a 3rd addon necessary 4 connectivity ... 4 xample:
Circle of Ossus has 8 less spirit and 8 more haste, but both are considered valuable stats. Both have 2 sockets.

GS of Circle of Ossus: 370
GS of Zabra's Leggings of Conquest: 402

How do you justify this??

On the other hand:
Higher stats, same item-gs:
An itemlevel 232 caster weapon with 550 spellpower and other stats has the same GS (402) as an offhand with about 78 spellpower.

Does anyone think 550 spellpower isn't more valuable than 78?
Once again: How do you justify this??
Or are these just huge bugs?

For Cataclysm I have 2 options.

Option 1
Leave GearScore how it is and simply adjust the color scheme so that 6000 appears as green 7000 as blue, 8000 as pruple, 9000 as orange, and 10000 as red.

I personally do not like this. I don't like the eventuallity of people having like 12.4k GS and such, its just silly. Not to mention that as soon as anyone hits 9001gs they will spend hours and hours spamming OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /sigh

Option 2.

This is the one I will most likely go with unless feedback is really against it.

GearScores will be readjusted to a new scale. This means if you have 6000gs now your GS in cataclysm will be about 2000. This will create a similar scale for Cata as is current for WotLK. For example, farming ilvl 200 heroics will get you about 3000 gs, and running Naxx will get you up to 4000. And running the first raids in Cata will let you reach 4000 as well. I have to wait and see to find out what the final scale will be, but I plan to set it like this.

I will take the highest itemlevel of blue equipment available and calculate the gearscore if a player had that level of gear in every slot. And set that GS to 3000, witch is the same blue color as the item it represents. Then have it scale to 4000 as you equip epics.

Please let me know what you think.

I love GS. It helps stop all the new noobs from getting carried. Thats the use I see for it, and I love it.
Those of us with good GS have it for a reason. We spent time and effort (a fuckload of both) getting to where we are. When wotlk came out, heroics were hard, and we had to do Naxxramas to get gear that was the best in the game, yet still the same item level as heroics. Then, when we had the gear for ulduar, blizzard released it, and we could move on. Same thing happened, we spent tons of time in uld, got the gear, and blizz released ToC. Once again the same thing happened, we spent more time and wipes in ToC, and then blizz released ICC and those of us who worked hard got into it right away.

Those of you who QQ are insensitive bastards. The reason you dont have the gear is because you didnt go through all the shit we did. You are allowed to skip naxx 10 and 25, AND ulduar 10 and 25. All you have to do are heroics and that gets you geared enough to do ToC simply from badges. Start out in toc 10 like everyone else, and then move on to toc 25. When you get enough gear, then you can start doing icc.

Its not arxkanites fault you people expect to be carried into ICC without doing any of the hard work the rest of us put in to the game. We spent YEARS getting into ICC and you fucks expect to get in as soon as you hit 80.
